Are you seeing the results you want from your workout? You may want to try High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT). This type of training alternates between intense bursts of activity and fixed periods of less intensity or even complete rest. A simple example of this would be running as fast as you can for one minute, fol- lowed by walking for two minutes. Repeat this three minute set five times to take your workout to a different level. The great thing about HIIT is that it can be personalized to your fitness level and your goals. The exercises chosen and the time assigned to the intervals can be easily varied and customized for you. What makes this workout better than a constant cardio workout? A study was conducted (Zuhl,M. &Kravitz,L. (2012) IDEA Fitness Journal) to prove the benefits of HIIT training. Some of these include increased cardio output, decreased resting heart rate, improved aerobic capacity, lowered resting blood pres- sure, increased calories and fat burned and increased metabolism. If you are ready to jump start your workout, then try HIIT. You will be challenged, sweating and sucking wind, but you definitely won't be bored!
