The students, under the guidance of Mrs. Jennifer Cywnar and Mrs. Heather Stanley, are actively working towards obtaining an EcoSchools certification. Currently, students are working on forming a "green team" which will eventually lead and coordinate activities related to sustainability within the school building. One of the major endeavors under the sustainability initiative was creation of a "Butterfly Station" in the PMG courtyard. The next initiative is to conduct a "Food Audit" in the cafeteria to learn about the amount of food being wasted. Students will then learn about what can be done to reduce food wastage. Students will be watching videos, working on lessons in classrooms and will then be encouraged to come up with ideas and collaborate to conduct the food audit on a designated day in the cafeteria. This is super exciting for our young learners as it encourages active participation, leadership and individual initiative. Our amazing staff are actively involved in ensuring a successful learning experience for all students at PMG!! T h a n k y o u P T A ! T h e P T A sponsored the Eyes of the Wild assembly at PMG where kindergarten students learned about rescued animals and animals from specific parts of the world. Students also learned that while some animals may be cute, they cannot be pets, like skunks! Round Valley School Waste Warriors at RVS: A cafeteria waste audit was conducted b y s t u d e n t v o l u n t e e r s f r o m Grades 3 and 4 at Round Valley School on February 22, 2024. Members of the district Green Team were onsite to assist the students. A cafeteria waste audit is a systematic examination of the waste generated in a cafeteria setting to assess its composition and volume. The audit involved sorting different types of waste, such as food scraps, packaging, and recyclables, to identify areas for improvement in waste reduction and recycling efforts. This audit was a huge success! Students have continued to meet and brainstorm ways that we can reduce food waste in the future.
