Giving blood is the most generous act of kindness that one human being can do for another. When you give blood, you save lives. Blood is used for accident victims, newborn babies and their mothers who need a transfusion, people undergoing surgery, patients receiving treatment for cancer and other diseases. You never know when you may need blood, or when someone you love may need it. Donating regularly can help ensure that our community is never short on blood. Can I donate blood? To be eligible to donate blood, a person must be at least 17 years of age, be in good health, weigh at least 110 pounds, have not donated in the past eight weeks, and is not currently taking antibiotics or insulin (only if of a "bovine" nature). Please note: Our 17-year-old donors must weigh at least 130 pounds. Call: 908.788.6405 to schedule an appointment. H U n t e r D o n H e A l t H o f f e r s n e w b i r t H p r e p A r A t i o n C l A s s Hunterdon Health is pleased to announce a new birth preparation class for expecting moms called Spinning Babies ® Birth Preparation Class. Spinning Babies ® , created by Gail Tully, is a revolutionary physiological approach that offers a fresh and anatomically-based perspective on birth. Spinning Babies ® believes that fetal positions are not random; babies naturally fit the space available to them. During birth, babies descend through the pelvis by turning to fit each curve in the passage. Baby's turns are "fetal rotation." If fetal rotation can be made easier, birth is easier for everyone. This class will demonstrate how birth anatomy can be flexible and will offer techniques that will assist with an easier childbirth with fetal positioning through physiology before force. Instead of focusing on how far dilated the cervix is, the attention is shifted to where the baby is positioned, where the womb is in relation to the pelvis, and which level of the pelvis the baby is maneuvering in. These inquiries open up a world of possibilities, allowing support for a physiological birth, reduction of fear, and enhancement of the bond between mother and baby. The Spinning Babies ® Birth Preparation Class will be offered eight times throughout the year at the HMC Education Center at 215 Route 31 South, Flemington, NJ 08822. The class should be taken after 22 weeks of gestation. Please call 908-788-MOMS (6667) to register or visit: www.hunterdonhealth.org, Maternity & Newborn Care Center, Parenting and Childbirth Classes for more information.
