You're in good hands with Dr.Tzorfas! W o m e n ' s F o r u m u s a One of the delights of living out here in the "country" is that periodically an event, which is a hallmark of our area, happens. Such is the program titled Mansion in May. I've noticed that it's also a conversation stopper - the moment the name comes up, all talk turns to "When are we going?" For our Spring Luncheon at the Dillon Library on Thursday April 6 ($20/person), Women's Forum welcomes author and historian Barry Thomson and his illustrated talk about the history of the Women's Association for Morristown Medical Center, its invaluable affiliation with the hospital and its much heralded Mansion in May program. Register at: http://engagedpatrons.org/EventsExtended. cfm?SiteID=3205&EventID=488904. Many of us are familiar with the magnificent presentation of interior and landscape design that has become one of the most sought after destinations in the Somerset Hills. Mr. Thomson's lecture will give us perspective on the forces at work behind this project and a hint at this year's stunning display. Did you know that April is National Poetry Month? I know because our learned library director Marie Crenshaw told me so. I had approached her with our next topic idea and she directed me to April - and so here we are! Google tells us: April is National Poetry Month, thirty days of celebrating the joy, expressiveness, and pure delight of poetry. So that's exactly what we are going to do. We're going to honor the art of verse at our Poetry Luncheon on Thursday April 20 at the Dillon Library. We'll start with the story of an American literary legend, Robert Frost. "Frequently honored during his lifetime, Frost is the only poet to receive four Pulitzer Prizes for Poetry. He became one of America's rare public literary figures, almost an artistic institution. He was awarded the Congressional Gold Medal in 1960 for his poetic works. He was named Poet Laureate of Vermont." – Wikipedia. I found an interview done in 1952 which reveals the poet in his realm, his New England farm. You'll discover an intriguing man full of complexity and brilliance and humility in the person of this gentle Vermont farmer. After the documentary we will host poets of our own, from the WF membership, who will recite from their work and tell us about their inspiration and journey to poetry. – As always, Evelyn Breheney Glynn (womensforumusa@gmail.com) If you have any foot problems, issues and questions, please contact Howard J. There are many different things that can cause foot pain, and I'm going to go through a few things in this article for you to try to help yourself. If not, then we'll know that you will need to go see a podiatrist to see if he or she can help you. The first thing you need to consider is, do your feet hurt you all the time? If not, when do they hurt? Do they hurt in your shoes? Okay, are you wearing the right shoes? You need to be wearing the correct shoes for the activity that you're doing. If you are trying to walk or exercise in thin shoes, loafers, heels, work boots, then you're not wearing the correct shoes. Now that you have fixed this problem, let's look to see if they are properly fitted. You need to have a thumbs-width from the end of your biggest toe to the end of the shoe. If your toes are all the way to the end of the shoe, then your shoe is too small. You may not be the same shoe size that you were years ago! Your feet can stretch out, expand, get bigger – so need to buy bigger shoes, and you also need to get new shoes. Those old sneakers that are worn down are not doing you any good. Let's find out if you have other things going on. Do you have numbness in your feet or your toes? Does this happen all the time, or once in a while? If this happens all the time then you may have neuropathy, which can be related to diabetes, and you should have your feet checked by a podiatrist. If this happens once in a while, then your feet may get better if you're wearing the right shoes. If you're having heel pain that only happens when you get up in the morning or when you get up from a sitting position, you may have plantar fasciitis, an inflammation of the ligament on the bottom of your foot. There are a lot of different treatments out there which you can try, but I wouldn't recommend overstretching or using a frozen soda can too much. Obviously if it's not going away in a couple weeks then you should go see a podiatrist. He or she can help you a lot – and no, you don't always have to get a cortisone injection.
