Get ready to cast your lines as the annual Clinton Sunrise Rotary Fishing Derby will be held on Saturday, May 6, rain or shine at DeMott Pond, on Route 173 in Clinton, across the street and one block west of the Liyo Inn. Registration will be held from 8:00 am - 9:00 am; fishing is from 9:00 am – 12 noon. The Fishing Derby promotes fun family-time and good sportsmanship at no charge to participating families. DeMott Pond will be stocked with fish for this free family event, and bait, bobbers and hooks will be supplied – just bring your own pole. The event is open to youth ages 4 – 16 years old and each participant will receive a raffle ticket for door prize drawings during the event. Prizes will also be awarded for various categories such as First Fish Caught, Longest Fish and Strangest Catch. The derby has been a long standing tradition in Clinton and a positive experience for the youth of the community. The event, sponsored by the Clinton Sunrise Rotary, is also sponsored by the Town of Clinton, Clinton Police and local businesses such as Michelle Heide of Ameriprise Financial Services. Other businesses and organizations can also sponsor the event. To participate as a sponsor, go to: www.ClintonSunriseRotary. org. Rotary will also be holding a used bike collection at the derby to benefit CAT – Coalition for Appropriate Transportation (www.lvCAT.org). CAT is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. The Clinton Sunrise Rotary meets every Thursday morning, 8:00am, at the Clinton Firehouse. Interested in learning more about the club? Visit: www.clintonsunriserotary.org or call: 908.279.0112.
