Kimberly Borin, EdD will share her research on the importance of a child's ability to connect to nature. In her book, The Sense of Wonder, Rachel Carson asks the question, "Is the exploration of the natural world just a pleasant way to pass the golden hours of childhood or is there something deeper? I am sure there is something much deeper, something lasting and significant." In response, Dr. Borin will talk about the benefits of allowing children to explore in the natural world and to share their experiences and reflections. We'll take a look at our own stories about nature and how those moments influenced our lives. Practical suggestions for helping children enjoy the natural world will also be given. Find out more about Dr. Borin and her ongoing work at: www.theencouragingworks.com. This program is presented by the South Highlands Group of the Sierra Club on May 2 at the North County Branch Library in Clinton at 7:00 pm. The program is free and open to the public. t h i n K i n g o f C a m P i n g a t R o u n d v a L L e y ? May 20, 10:00 am to 1:00 pm Thinking of Round Valley camping? April's crazy weather did not damper Troop 200! The Council of Ricks patrol hiked and camped over Spring Break. The weekend of the 13th, the Troop headed down to Sandy Hook where they camped and hiked through a holly forest where they saw some of the oldest, rarest and largest holly trees in the US. They also visited the Nike Ajax Missile site and learned the history of being part of a ring of Cold War-era defense installations. The Troop celebrated two scouts - Zach Nemeth and Tyler Boyd - who were recognized at their Courts of Honor for earning the rank of Eagle Scout. The two scouts became the 86th and 87th Eagle Scouts from Troop 200. Congratulations to Zach and Tyler on this accomplishment - we are proud of you! Troop 200 is sponsored by Immaculate Conception Church in Annandale. If you are interested in learning more about the troop attend a meeting, follow BSA Troop 200 on Facebook or visit the Troop 200 website at http://boyscouttroop200.org.
