Missing signs can cause a serious safety issue in that traffic accidents may occur and emergency personnel can be delayed in providing assistance to those in need. Additionally, street signs cost approximately $200 to replace, thereby costing taxpayer dollars. A summons, court appearance and fine are possible penalties for persons apprehended stealing signs. Townships in the surrounding area are reporting an increase also. Residents are asked to be certain to lock their doors, even when at home. Cars should be locked in the evening hours. Several scams have been reported to the Clerk's office as well. Solicitation door-to- door is prohibited without a permit issued by the Clerk's Office and requires a police background check. Any questionable activity, suspicious vehicle or person should be reported to the Police immediately and, if safe to do so, obtain a license plate number. Call: 908.735.7230 for the CTPD.
