The events are part of the nationwide celebration of Catholic education during the week of January 28 through February 3. The week's theme – "Catholic Schools: Communities of Faith, Knowledge and Service" – highlights the schools' focus on faith development, academic excellence and dedication to community service. On Thursday, February 1, students will attend mass and then gather together with their Faith Family to complete a community service project, "Blessing Bags for the needy". ICS Faith Families are cross-grade level groups of students in grades K-8. Each group is named after a Patron Saint and has two adult sponsors. These groups meet monthly and work together on a spiritual activity, inclusive of a service component, building a strong community among themselves. The Blessing Bags will be filled with personal items such as ChapStick, gloves, socks, etc. and each bag includes an inspirational message from one of our students. The bags will be distributed to the needy in the community. "ICS believes in helping people learn to be of service to one another. We are all together on this planet and we must have a mindset that is inclusive, with an attitude that together we will be more whole, but isolated we will be diminished. To this end we appreciate partnering with our surrounding community to help those in need and to recognize the human dignity and self- worth of all people" commented Principal David Stone. Immaculate Conception School invites prospective students, their families and community residents to one of two open house events, Sunday, January 28, 10:00 am – Noon, or Wednesday, January 31, 9:00 am – 11:00 am. Learn about the school's educational programs, extracurricular activities and enrichment opportunities, while feeling and seeing our sense of community in action. Students will conduct tours and administration and parent ambassadors will be available for questions. Registration information will be available for the 2018-19 school year. Immaculate Conception School in Annandale is a 2013 Blue Ribbon School of Academic Excellence and the only Catholic School in Hunterdon County. With an 'Enter to learn; Go forth to serve' mindset, the school serves students two years old through grade eight and offers a rigorous academic program seeking to foster in each student spiritual growth, academic excellence and moral integrity. The North Hunterdon Newcomers Club is sponsoring a free seminar by Anne Thornton – President of MSI Plumbing, and author of "Insider's Guide to Home Improvement". Anne will be speaking on Thursday, February 8 at our General Meeting and will provide tips and tricks about home maintenance that every homeowner should know, in addition to real safety concerns in the home and the questions to ask a prospective contractor. This is open to the general public and will take place at the Rescue Squad Building in Clinton, 48 Old Hwy 22, on the second floor. Anne has been honored as one of New Jersey's Top 25 Leading Women Entrepreneurs; she is a SmartCEO Brava Award recipient and recently received the first ever Catalyst Award from the Women's Business Forum of the Hunterdon County Chamber of Commerce. Our general meeting begins at 7:30 pm, and Anne will speak at 8:00 pm. Refreshments will be provided.
