The GLBT of Hunterdon County is a 501(c)(3) charity aiming to provide safe spaces, education and informational speakers, outings, events and college scholarships for the benefit of the local Hunterdon County LGBTQ youth community. LGBTQ youth, teens, young adults, parents and allies are all welcome to join us the first Thursday of each month (weather permitting) from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm at the North Branch County Library, 65 Halsted Street in Clinton, NJ 08809, and also on Saturdays between 1:00 and 3:00 pm at the Flemington Free Public Library , 118 Main Street, Flemington, NJ 08822. We host a variety of events throughout the year! One of our goals is to provide resources for LGBT and questioning teens. We rely on your generous donations to keep these initiatives going! You can follow us on Facebook and Twitter for news and updates. SCHOLARSHIP ESSAY 2018: A $500 college scholarship will be awarded to an entering college freshman (Fall 2019), and made out to the entering college in the winning student's name. Applicants must submit their essay of no less than 1,000 words on or before the first Thursday in August (you may feel free to submit it at our regularly scheduled meeting that month). The winner will be announced at our September meeting. Matthew Loscialo started the GLBT in 2003 and the group become a non-profit in 2013. Matthew, a local resident who lives with Asperger's Syndrome, achieved his Bachelor's of Business, Magna Cum Laude from Fairleigh Dickinson University in 2014, and currently is working as a landscape photographer. In addition, over the years Matthew has won several blue ribbons in the Professional Photographers of America/NJ contests, as well as blue ribbons overall in the National Professional Photographers of America Contest. Visit: www.MatthewLoscialo.com to see his work. Matthew ran the group Asperger Friends for several years, but it is now closed. Despite having been bullied and teased in school as a young man, he survived and would like to let young people who feel marginalized know that they too will survive, and that they should reach out to local support groups and supportive adults around them. For the Asperger Community, Matthew would suggest that you make sure to get more than one opinion, and find people who will work closely with your child. Matthew speaks to various support groups throughout the year. For more information, or if you would like him to come talk to your group, please contact Matthew at: 908.323.5721 or email him at: matthewl@alum.fdu.edu.
