Members of the (Clinton Township) Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) who
have recently completed 10 years of service were recognized by proclamation at the September
meeting of the Clinton Township Council. Photo at left, from left are: Carole Jochen, Dave Jochen,
Steve Tuccio, Denise Beattie, Robert Smolarek, Gene Saltz (co-coordinator of Clinton Township CERT), Don
Fulmer, and Clinton Township Mayor John Higgins.
FEMA's Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program educates volunteers
about disaster preparedness for the hazards that may impact their area and trains them in
basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization
and disaster medical operations. CERT offers a consistent, nationwide approach to volunteer training
and organization that professional responders can rely on during disaster situations, which allows them to
focus on more complex tasks. Through CERT, the capabilities to prepare for, respond to and recover from
disasters are built and enhanced.
Ever wonder how you could help our community if our area was hit by a major event
like the hurricanes that recently devastated Texas and Florida? CERT is your answer. All
Clinton Township CERT meetings are open to the public and potential volunteers are invited to attend. The team meets the first Wednesday of the month at 7:00 PM at
the Annandale Hose Company No. 1 firehouse, 68 Beaver Ave, Annandale, NJ 08801, lower level meeting room. For more information on Clinton Township CERT,
contact co-coordinator Steve Krommenhoek or Gene Saltz by email: info.cert.ctnj@gmail.com or call: 908.398.2333.
