Mailboxes which are hanging over the curb may be too close to the street and run the risk of being damaged by a snow plow. Our Public Works drivers make every attempt to be mindful of mailboxes, but in the event your mailbox does sustain damage from the plow ONLY, the Township will either repair your mailbox or reimburse the homeowner up to $75 with a receipt. For further information, please contact the Township Clerk's Office at 908.735.8800, ext. 204. w w w. C l i n t o n T W P N J . c o m Over the years, the Township has used our voter approved Open Space Tax levy to acquire more than 1,000 acres of land, preserving and protecting environmentally significant areas from development and providing recreational opportunities for our residents. Thanks to the efforts of dedicated volunteers, trail systems have recently been created on some of these properties. This summer, Councilwoman Amy Switlyk led a group of volunteers in laying out a trail system on the 224 acre Marookian/ Kaufelt properties located along Rt. 31, between Regional and Allerton roads. Created in cooperation with North Hunterdon High School, this trail is accessible from Regional Road. It provides the school's cross country track teams with a safe place to practice, provides our residents a walking/ running trail with beautiful views and is a great example of shared services. Earlier this year the Township's Environmental Commission completed a trail system on the 255 acre Windy Acres tract. In addition to their hard work in determining the trail's layout and setting markers, the Commission was able to secure a grant from NJDEP to fund the project. These efforts underscore a need to transition from simply acquiring open space land with the Open Space Tax levy to developing a master plan to guide us in how we use and maintain the open space we already have. As part of this transition, the Township Council has approved a referendum question for the November ballot which, if approved, would permit more of the Township's current Open Space tax levy (i.e. no increase in the levy) to be used for maintenance of and, for the first time, improvements to our open space properties. This would provide the Township with the flexibility to undertake projects or acquire additional land as needed. Please look for more information on the referendum question in the next newsletter. For further information, please contact the Township Clerk's Office at 908.735.8800, ext. 204. Leaf pickup will begin Monday, October 30. There will not be any zones this year. DPW will have crews out at each end of the Township. This is a voluntary program, residents preferring to compost leaves or dispose of them on their own property may do so. The purpose of the leaf collections program is to help alleviate the abundance of leaves that will cover the street and clog the storm drains. It is not intended to be a lawn service that ensures all your leaves will be collected from your lawn. We will do the best we can with one pass down your street. Public Works appreciates your cooperation and patience to ensure the program's success. L E A F P I C K U P P R O G R A M - 2 01 7 ( LEAF PICK-UP IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE AND IS WEATHER DEPENDENT.
