Ms. Mary Licata of Turpin Realtors recently organized a Holiday Boutique Fundraiser in early December at the Raritan Valley Country Club in Bridgewater. The proceeds benefitted long-term residential programs for those who are battling addiction and their co-occurring disorders. Local treatment program Anderson House was present and provided pertinent information about their services. This was the first such event Mary has sponsored to serve Hunterdon and Somerset Counties' recovering population. The Holiday Boutique hosted many local community vendors to share their products and talents with consumers and attendees. Vendors included Touchstone Crystal by Swarovski, Tastefully Simple,Usborne Books, Arbonne Skin Care, LuLaRoe Clothing, Ruby Ribbon and Norwex, to name a few. Each donation at the door went to halfway houses in the area, including: Hunterdon County's Anderson House for Women and Freedom House for Men, and Somerset County's Crawford House for Women. Recently, law enforcement and citizens alike have taken notice of the ballooning drug crisis in New Jersey – especially in Hunterdon County. Drug overdose was the leading cause of accidental death in NJ in 2016. Mary Licata, the organizer, commented "Our focus for the event was to raise money for Drug Addiction Awareness specifically the long term residential programs with a focus on re-entering the work force. The recovering addict struggles with re-entry into society and the work force, they have been functioning in a very different world for a long time. The need for them to be productive, structured, supporting themselves financially and to feel good about their progress is essential. Moving forward we are looking for employers who will be willing to give these men and women a chance at new employment or apprenticeship programs so they can learn specific job skills." Residential programs such as Anderson House save lives and greatly increase the odds of long-term sobriety from drugs and alcohol by lengthening the period of care while addressing mental health issues and past trauma. Mary Licata and the Clinical Director of Anderson House, Helen McIntosh, recognize the unmet need for these residences in Hunterdon County and Statewide for treatment that extends past short term treatment of seven to 28 days. Thank you, Mary, for organizing such an event for a great but sometimes overlooked cause. If you would like to learn more about Anderson House and volunteer opportunities, please contact Diana Ruggieri at: 908.534-5818, ext. 210. o p t i m i z i n G A F t e r - t A x r e t i r e m e n t i n C o m e : F r e e e d u C A t i o n A l l u n C h e o n According to a 2016 Study from the Urban Institute, life expectancy for both men and women is increasing. In an interesting twist, the study also found that the gender gap in life expectancy is shrinking. Now that we may all live longer than we expected, how can a couple devise a plan to fund their expenses for (hopefully) the next 30+ years? A couple close to or in retirement should construct a multi-year Optimal After-Tax Retirement Income stream that incorporates the timing and source of all income produced by Social Security Elections, Retirement and Taxable accounts. The analysis should account for Wealth Transfer Goals and Age Factored Enjoyment Thresholds ("I may get more in the future but I will enjoy it more today"). There are also many intertwined tax ramifications and choices like ROTH conversions that need to be analyzed and modeled for efficiency. Optimized Transitions will be hosting an educational luncheon on Thursday, February 16 at 11:00 am at HealthQuest. We will review the process for "Optimizing After-Tax Retirement Income". Please join us afterwards for a catered lunch by the fine folks at Matt's Red Rooster. Limited space available. Please RSVP to Admin@ OTWealth.com.
