Growing up we admired the pure talent of Michael Jordan, Wayne Gretzky and Brett Favre, wishing we'd be like them some day. Unfortunately, life has other plans and the majority of people do not become professional athletes. But we can still train like one! We can simply achieve this by including balance, speed, agility and quickness training into our workout routines. There are benefits to adding balance training to your workouts, such as any single leg exercises. One benefit for example is the reduction of the risk of injury to the lower extremities. Speed, agility and quickness training, which incorporate acceleration, deceleration and sudden changes in direction, have benefits as well. For example, the inclusion of SAQ training increases neuromuscular demands that can aid in weight loss, coordination and injury prevention when applied safely. Sports specific training can be fun, unique and invigorating! It can also aid with running after the kids, playing sports recreationally or even walking up and down stairs. The inclusion of sports specific training will make you one step closer to that athlete you once were or wish to become! Since its inception, this program has raised over $650,000 which allows Hunterdon Healthcare to continue to provide excellent healthcare for our community and the surrounding areas. Each year, the Lights of Love evergreen tree, located on the front lawn of the Hunterdon Medical Center campus, is illuminated with thousands of lights representing gifts received from donors all over the country to honor or memorialize their loved ones. Once again it is time to think about the people who mean the most to us. You can do this by making a $20 tax-deductible donation to the Hunterdon Healthcare Foundation requesting that a "light of love" be placed on the "Lights of Love" Tree. In addition, you can make a larger donation in which shining ornaments will be placed on the tree. These levels include: Circle of Love - $500, Candlelight - $250 and Starlight - $100. A special tree lighting ceremony will be held this year on Wednesday, December 7 from 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm at Hunterdon Medical Center. For additional information and to make a donation, call the Hunterdon Healthcare Foundation at: 908.788.6141 or visit: www.foundation. hunterdonhealthcare.org.
