Come and check out the high quality antique, vintage and contemporary items available to canny bargain hunters and enjoy a true country auction complete with refreshments, unexpected treasures and fresh fall air. The auction will be held at the actual 1759 Vought House, 34 Grayrock Road, Annandale, opening Saturday morning at 9:30 for previews, and 10:30 for the actual bidding. Professional auctioneer Laurel Fox, of Michael J. Stasak, Jr., Antiques and Auction Service, Carpentersville, NJ, is generously donating her services, and friends and neighbors of the Vought House are offering the household goods available for this fundraiser. All proceeds benefit the 1759 Vought House, a 501(c)3 nonprofit. Among the donated items available for bidding are two signed prints by renowned local artist Dan Campanelli (a summer scene, "Wash Day," and a winter scene (A Winter Day"); an antique wooden spice cabinet; rare antique books; brass Steiff lamps; vintage Persian inlaid picture frames; a vintage hand-crafted, pierced brass fireplace fender; an early 1940's standing child's Victrola; several antique high chairs; rugs; Virginia Metalcraft items—and much, much more! This fund-raising auction is inspired by a real auction in 1778. This Revolutionary War Loyalist Homestead was the home of Christopher Vought, his son John, and their families in the 1760s and 1770s. When the men joined the British forces in 1776, their wives and children, like many other Loyalist families, faced the anger of their Patriot neighbors, who stole some of their goods and auctioned off everything else. The Voughts were settled by the British in Nova Scotia at war's end. Come, have fun, bid on wonderful items, and support this exciting project! Rain or shine, bargains galore, entrance free, donations received with gratitude. All proceeds benefit the 1759 Vought House.
