T h e 2 0 1 6 n J s u p e R h e R o W e e k e n d The 2016 NJ SUPERHERO WEEKEND (formerly WONDER WOMAN DAY) will be hosted by Comic Fusion on AUGUST 20-21 in Flemington's Turntable Junction shopping village. Comic Fusion will auction comic book- themed sketches to raise money and awareness for CASA of Somerset, Hunterdon, and Warren Counties (CASA SHaW), a charitable organization which provides advocates in court for children living in the foster care system. This year's event kicks off at 10AM with a 1-mile Superhero Walk through downtown Flemington to raise awareness about Child Abuse Prevention and to introduce the weekend's activities. The starting point is Comic Fusion, 16 Turntable Junction, Flemington. Participants are encouraged to wear their favorite superhero costumes in support of children in foster care in our community. Boniakowski Insurance of Green Brook will be providing free Rita's Italian Ices for participants. Following the walk, friends of CASA can spend the day at Comic Fusion from Noon-5PM Saturday and Sunday. Events include cosplay/costumed superheroes and villains who will gladly pose for pictures, live music, a raffle of prints, books and more, a 50/50 raffle, on-site artists and a comic book- themed art auction. Since 2007, Comic Fusion has raised over $57,000 for charities. This has been made possible by tremendous volunteers and companies such as DC Comics, Action Lab, Aspen Comics, Dark Horse Comics, Oni Press, Gov't Comics, Periscope Studios, Vices Press and many talented comic book creators who donate their work to us each year. Keep checking for updates to our comic book creators' guest list: TOM SCHLOENDORN, AVANTIKA SHAHA and more TBA. The art sketches are auctioned with bids taken via email and in person at Comic Fusion. This year, the art auction will end online bidding at midnight on Friday, August 19, and in-store bidding on Saturday, August 20 at 5:00 pm. Raffles will be drawn on Sunday, August 21. Comic Fusion is an independently owned retail shop of comics, gaming and collectibles located in Flemington. They've organized an annual event to raise money and awareness for charities since 2007. CASA of Somerset, Hunterdon, and Warren Counties is part of a statewide network of community-based, non-profit programs that recruit, screen, train and supervise volunteers to "Speak Up for a Child" removed from home due to abuse or neglect. CASA is the only program in New Jersey that uses trained volunteers to work one-on-one with children, ensuring that each one gets the services needed and achieves permanency in a safe, nurturing home.
