On Saturday, March 19, the North and South County branches of the Hunterdon County Library will participate in the 2nd Annual New Jersey Makers Day. Are you an artist? Inventor? Robotics fan? Crafter? Do you enjoy demonstrating your projects and teaching others? Join us at the library and share your artistic activity by demonstrating and letting others participate in making. We supply tables, plenty of publicity and an adoring community that will appreciate your involvement! Makers Day 2015 was a huge success – over 650 people attended the one day event, our first Makers Day ever. It's a day of interactive, creative inventing, including local artists demonstrating their crafts, 3D printing and robotic demonstrations. Here are just a few of the comments from our Makers Day 2015. "Wonderful! Well organized event with tons of interesting activities. Loved the mix of tech and handcrafts. Will definitely be back next year!" "We loved this day! All of the 3-D printing & robotics were fascinating. The kids loved the squishy circuits and model building. I got to learn about Pysanky eggs and make one myself! This was a wonderful experience. Can't wait until next year!" "I like the motorized legos, squishy circuits and whacking metal. I love making stuff. I want to do this every weekend!" All projects must be approved by the library. This is a statewide event held at more than 100 libraries in New Jersey. As a non-profit educational organization based in Hunterdon County, The Work-Family Connection practices recycling paper in an unusual way that not only helps local farms, but also saves trees and lessens the overall environmental impact. The organization shreds all paper, and the shredded paper is given to a local horse farm that uses it for bedding in the horses' stalls. The paper is biodegradable and, by adding paper to shavings, the mixture is more absorbent and helps the shavings to break down into compost more quickly into top soil. Fewer trees are destroyed for shavings, so using the shredded paper helps to conserve this natural resource as well as saving the farmers money in bedding costs. The Work-Family Connection operates Before School, After School, Kindergarten and Summer Camp Programs in more than 30 schools across New Jersey. Programs are structured with activities focused on community service and character education, while linking to the student's school day learning in science, math and technology.
