Recent studies have shown that foam rolling has a multitude of benefits and these improvements can be seen at any age. Foam rolling produces a short term increase in flexibility as well as an increase in blood flow to the rolled area. It is often used as a warm-up instead of static stretching which can harm performance for a short period of time. Long term flexibility is increased by doing both a combination of foam rolling and stretching on a consistent basis. Some other benefits achieved are a decrease in the amount of soreness one has after a workout and an improvement in balance. It also affects the part of the nervous system responsible for stress reduction. Foam rolling is a healthy addition to any individual's workout routine and is also safe for individuals new to exercise. If you would like to learn more, come participate in our Foam Rolling workshop held at the Wellness Center in Clinton! The date is January 21, 2016, from 6:30 - 8:00 pm. Come dressed to work out.
