There's no doubt that appearing on the first page of a Google search
result is an ultimate marketing goal for any business. Creating and
managing a Google+ business page is one way to accomplish this goal. Setting
up a Google business profile requires a Google personal profile. This profile
requires, at bare minimum, your name, a gmail account and your date of birth.
With your Google personal profile, you can then create a Google+
page, which requires the following:
• A cover photo (1080 x 608 pixels recommended; cannot be smaller than 480 x 270
pixels nor larger than 2120 x 1992 pixels)
• A profile picture (use 250 x 250 pixels)
• A physical business location utilizing an address Google recognizes
(PO boxes are not allowed)
• A category or categories describing your business (the first category selected
will be your primary category; use the minimum number of categories
necessary to fully describe your business)
• A brief description of your business, bolding words or phrases for emphasis
• A longer description with bolding and links to other online assets
Additions or updates to a Google+ page often require verification
via a postcard mailing from Google, which takes approximately 7-10
days. Modifications may be made to your page during this time; however, the
changes will not be visible until verification is completed.
Once your Google+ page is created, we suggest posting regularly. We
recommend a minimum of ten posts initially, followed by at least weekly postings
thereafter. Create relevant, up-to-date posts using hashtags (#hashtags) for optimum
visibility. If you have a blog, set it up to feed automatically to your Google+ page.
The result of these efforts? You just may see your posts in Google desktop and
mobile search results, and maybe even on the first page. Best of luck!
