The Mill has been around for 205 years and is a beloved landmark of Clinton. For twenty five years, the horror- house has been running as a fundraiser (and quite an excellent one at that) to support the historic museum. People come from near and from far to experience the spooky fun and help support the Red Mill. Across the way, in nearby Annandale, is the Hunterdon Preparatory School. Hunterdon Prep has been helping the Red Mill set up its Haunted Mill event for three years. During the 2015-2016 school year, Hunterdon Prep is intentionally reaching out to community groups to forge connections and partnerships in an outreach campaign called Share It Forward. The purpose behind the campaign is to provide service opportunities to HPS students and to help the school become a contributing member of its home community. Before the grand opening of the Haunted Mill, Hunterdon Prep students spent a week painting, building, wiring stereo and lights, setting up tents and, of course, decorating the Mill's interior. Students were able to learn new skills and provide help to a pillar of our Township, while experiencing an even deeper and more valuable lesson: helping others is a rewarding experience. In one student's words, "I love helping out and seeing the difference I can make." It's hard to imagine this extravaganza being completed so quickly, but with the help of our students, the Mill was up and running for its opening on October 9. Hunterdon Prep School, located at 11 Spencer Lane in Annandale, combines carefully designed counseling and social learning experiences with innovative academic instruction to promote social growth, behavioral change and academic success. HPS creates a supportive environment based on mutual respect and requires everyone to share responsibility for maintaining a healthy and safe learning community. Teachers, administrators and counselors work as a team to help students develop personal accountability and raise students' confidence in their ability to succeed.
