This event includes the very popular tasting of more than 60 heirloom and hybrid varieties of beefsteak, plum, cherry and grape tomatoes. Other highlights include tasting of various produce, varieties of basil, honey and recipes featuring Jersey Fresh produce. Open house features include the Melda C. Snyder Teaching Garden which showcases demonstration gardens of deer tolerant ornamentals; blueberries, hazelnuts and hollies from the Rutgers breeding programs; a sunflower pyramid; a turf labyrinth, fun family photo opportunities; and an "apple wall" featuring the NJAES Tree Fruit Breeding Program for home orchards. Wagon tours of the farm's research plots will be held throughout the event. We will also have chef demonstrations featuring preparation of several recipes, Jersey Fresh Salsa tastings, and teaching garden and educational displays from various organizations. United Way of Hunterdon County is looking for dedicated volunteers to help transform a building that will be home to the United Way Center for Volunteerism - the first of its kind in Hunterdon County. Volunteers will be rehabbing 20 Fulper Road in downtown Flemington to meet the needs of its volunteer programs. Those programs include the Tools 4 School backpack program, the VITA Free Tax Prep program and the Holiday Hands gift program. These programs bring together more than 1,000 volunteers from all over Hunterdon County. This project is being led by Ken Fischer, General Contractor, who successfully charged the volunteer effort to build "The Field of Dreams" in Clinton Township.
