The market, which began in the late 1990s as the first farmers' market in the area, is located at Riverside Wines and Liquors, 45 Main Street, High Bridge. From now through the end of October, the market will feature vendors such as local fresh produce farmers, an organic Angus beef farmer, a coffee and tea company and bakers. Last year about ten vendors participated with their Jersey Fresh goods. "I love to shop at the market," says High Bridge resident Lynn Hughes. "The produce is fresh, and the baked goods are delicious." People who use the Columbia Trail can walk down one block to the market and pick up ingredients for their dinners. Several local businesses also buy their produce from the High Bridge Farmers Market, so that their customers may enjoy the freshness of this convenient location. Parking is conveniently located on Main Street, the municipal lot on West Main Street near the train station, the Commons on Main Street at the foot of the Columbia Trail, or side streets. We hope to see you at the market one Saturday morning! New food vendors are welcome as well! For more information, please contact Lisa Zambito at: lisazambito@embarqmail.com. C a s a s H a W s e e k s a d v o C at e s ! Every year there are more than 100,000 reports of child abuse or neglect in New Jersey. Of these children, more than 9,000 are removed from their homes annually because the Court has found it to be too dangerous for them to remain in their homes. In an effort to address these children's many needs, Court Appointed Special Advocates of Somerset, Hunterdon, and Warren Counties (CASA SHaW) recruits, screens, trains and supervises community volunteers to act as advocates in court for children living in foster care. CASA volunteers are appointed by a family court judge to discover the best possible outcome for an abused or neglected child's future as well as make recommendations that support the child's current needs. These advocates conduct an independent fact-finding investigation, reviewing records, researching information and talking to everyone involved – social workers, attorneys, parents, teachers, family members and, of course, the children themselves. The volunteers receive support and supervision from a trained social worker with the CASA organization throughout the duration of their cases. The qualifications to become a CASA volunteer are to be over 21 years of age, no criminal or child abuse history, positive references, an abundance of common sense and a desire to help children in need. CASA volunteers undergo 36 hours of training from professionals in the legal and social service fields and participate in four hours of court observation as well as at least 12-hours of annual inservice training. CASA SHaW is currently seeking volunteers for its fall training and will be offering orientation sessions for prospective volunteers interested in learning more about this volunteer opportunity. If you're interested in finding out more information about becoming a CASA advocate or to review our training dates and locations, please visit the website at: www.casashaw. org, call 908.689.5515, or send an email to: info@casashaw.org.
