The North Hunterdon Education Foundation (NHEF), focused on providing career and college resources to North Students, is now offering workshops on the Common Application Essay for rising seniors! All workshops are facilitated by Ms. Lori Hofstetter, an independent college advisor. Ms. Hofstetter has been advising students for the past 12 years on the college search and application process and works as a writing coach to help students draft, hone and polish their college application essays. Rising seniors will leave with a working draft of their essays from this session. Also available is a one-session kickstarter option, described below. Full Session Workshop - $450: Students will be required to work on their essays between classes. Register now–we can only allow a maximum of 16 students for the full workshop session. The seats will be filled on a first come, first serve basis. Please visit the NHEF website at http://nhhsfoundation.org to register. August Session: Tuesdays/Thursdays, August 11, 13, 18, and 20 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Students enrolled in this workshop will: • Learn the basics of writing an effective Common App essay or personal statement. • Draft their essays during the course of the two-week workshop. • Read sample essays, write about personal experiences to identify themes, brainstorm essay topics and draft scenes. • Discuss writing techniques and draft transitions and endings. • Leave the four-day workshop with a working draft of their essay. Kickstarter Session: $100 • Workshop Date: July 29 - 6 to 8pm This one-session workshop targets those rising seniors who just need a kickstart with their Common App Essay. The seats will be filled on a first come, first serve basis. Students enrolled in this workshop will: • Learn the basics of writing an effective Common App essay or personal statement. • Read sample essays, discuss features, plot and learn the strategies needed to draft the essay. • Leave the single-day workshop with a roadmap they can use to tackle their college essay. Instructor Bio – Ms. Lori Hofstetter Ms. Hofstetter is an independent college advisor who works in the New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania metropolitan areas. She has been advising students and their families for the past twelve years on the college search and application process, including career/major assessment, resume writing and college interviews. She works with students as a writing coach to brainstorm, help draft, hone and polish the all-important college essay. She is an active member of the Higher Education Consultants Association. Ms. Hofstetter attended Williams College and New York University and holds a Master's Degree from the Eagleton Institute at Rutgers University. A published writer, Ms. Hofsetter has won the Thomas Wolfe Award for Poetry, as well as several awards for short fiction.
