Go beyond cobwebs and dust bunnies and think of your home as a tool that can be used to support your health and happiness. The concepts of The Flourishing Home provide a novel framework to the home environment that works for individuals from every walk of life and any size square footage. The Problem With Hubs? Hubs of the home are centralized locations for specific activities to take place; think laundry room, kitchen, office or desk space and the like. The biggest problems with these areas? Disorganization and clutter! The Flourishing Home offers a working definition of clutter that helps empower everyone in the family to decide what is a treasure worth keeping or an item that needs to be recycled, donated or discarded. So, what is clutter? The definition of clutter includes the words: confused, unwanted, interference, disorderly and having too much in a small space. Expanding upon the definition, clutter can be characterized as items that: You do not need. You do not love. Do not bring joy. Are disorganized. Cause family problems. Make you feel embarrassed. Are not welcoming. Julie finds this especially helpful with school age children. Her Daughter has a collection of penguins in all shapes and sizes. This feels a tad overwhelming to Mom, but is beloved to Daughter, so those treasures stay. On the other hand, Julie had a client with a cabinet full of every single plastic mug from various sporting and musical events ever attended over the years that spilled out every time the cabinet was opened. When the client applied the definition, all but five were recycled. By freeing our spaces of clutter, we are able to enjoy the things and activities we love. Julie Kaminski has been a coach, counselor, personal trainer and group fitness instructor for over twenty five years. Her recent achievements include chairing the unification and renovation of Hunterdon County's domestic violence residence, managing 5000 volunteer hours, procuring $150,000 in donation in-kind and raising $30,000 in funds. The 5000-square foot home was successfully renovated in the short span of six months. Julie, her husband and three children are residents of Clinton Township.
