She left this world peacefully, in my home and in my arms, surrounded by her 2 shining lights, granddaughters Alexa Joey, age 11 and Ava Joy, age 5 and their love. Mom was soon to be 92 on March 31, but was recently placed on Hospice, due to her longstanding COPD. Although she was mentally sharp as a tack with the spirit to match, her body was getting weak and day-to-day activities were a challenge for her. She sold her house in Florida in 2013 and had extended her visits with me and my 2 girls from a few months during the year to becoming a permanent fixture in our home. Boy, were we lucky! I want to thank you for your wonderful Newsletter which mom waited for excitedly each month. She got such a "kick" out of the "very first person", but "relatable to all of us," stories, which would bring a smile to her face as we shared and acknowledged the lessons learned in them. Mom was an absolute social butterfly with close friends ranging in age from 20- 103. Her fashion style was worthy of a TV celebrity. Everyone loved and admired her for her intelligence, caring heart, thoughtfulness, generosity, kindness, good humor and spirituality. I am so grateful to have this "one of a kind" fabulous woman as my role model and mom. I attached a picture of us just a few months ago on Election Day, when I was running for Town Council. At the polls, she called out to the poll workers and any voters in earshot to "Vote for my daughter, Marlene Baldinger!" When I tried to "shhh" her and told her that you can't electioneer at the polls, she replied, as only mom could, "I'm 91 and I can do whatever I want" and so she did. :) Everybody had a "Rae story", that was just one of mine. :) You and CTNL have a very special place in my heart, for the laughter and information you brought mom and especially for the dedication of the recent issue to her, which I mentioned as a "fact you may not know about Rae" in her eulogy. If I can help or support you and this endeavor in any way, I am here to volunteer my time and energy, in honor of my mom. Best wishes for good health and continued success with your newsletter." –Marlene G. Baldinger Editor's Note: Dear Marlene, We are so sorry to hear about your mother's passing--we will truly miss Rae, "our biggest fan." She was a "ray of sunshine"— I'm sure you've heard that before. You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers. –Sincerely, Julie Flynn "Hi Julie, Thank you for the amazing ads for our troop roller skating party and service project! It looks so beautiful with the trefoil and shadows – it really stands out! Thank you again!"– Corinne Gonazalez-Rivas (GS Troop 80856) "Hi, Ruth and Julie, (Re: Ruth's column in the March issue) It all started when a mouse ran across the dining room floor while we were entertaining our first dinner guests in our new home. She said to use "sticky pads" to humanely catch the mouse. Bad idea - we caught the mouse and put it outside on the sticky pad in freezing weather, thinking some critter would get it or it would freeze to death. After 12 hours, it was still shivering on the sticky pad - alive. Over the next 24 years, our resourceful mice have: – moved peanuts in the shell from one room into a blanket chest in another room – moved chocolate chips from 1st floor pantry to basement closet – ran across my pillow while I was trying to get to sleep – chewed its way either into or out of the fridge – made its way into the house from the car by chewing into a paper bag containing a loaf of bakery bread and riding into the house - then escaping from the bag – got into a plastic bucket containing bird seed and eating so much, it got too round to get out of the bucket. If you find a way to get rid of the mice, please let me know. We're left with periodic "dead mouse in the wall" smell and dead mice in regular spring traps in the garage. Don't suggest a cat - we have one - doesn't do any good. Ruth, love your column. Julie, love the newsletter." Sincerely, Kay Parker Hassinger Editor's Note: We wish to extend our condolences to the family and friends of Clinton Township resident (and long-time CTNL advertiser) Bruce Bednar, who passed away this past February. Please know that you are all in our thoughts and prayers. Sincerely, Julie Flynn
