That's why I believe we're fortunate to be living in Hunterdon County where unique holiday traditions are plentiful. For more than 30 years, the Town of Clinton has kicked off the holidays with Dickens Days. Every Thanksgiving weekend, streets and storefronts are transformed from the modern day back to the Victorian era. Carolers and strolling musicians entertain visitors as they browse the unique shops in search of that one-of-a-kind gift or special ingredient for their holiday parties. Other highlights include horse-drawn carriage rides, the Festival of Trees at the Red Mill Museum Village and the appearance of Father Christmas. Both Clinton and Flemington host holiday parades showcasing floats designed by the various civic, church, school and community organiza- tions in the area. Clinton's Parade, which marks its 28th anniversary this year, is held on the first Friday in December with Flemington's following on Sunday. To mark the Jewish holiday of Hanukkah (which this year begins on December 16) Chabad of Hunterdon County hosts an annual meno- rah building event. Each year a different creative building material has been featured, with past examples including Legos, bowling pins and chocolate. Last year the event boasted what was probably the largest menorah ever built from donated canned goods. It will be interesting to see what's in store for this year. To round out the holiday festivities, the Community Diversity Council of Hunterdon County, based in Flemington, usually hosts activities celebrating Kwanzaa, which will be observed December 26, 2014 through January 1, 2015. However you choose to celebrate the season, use caution. Hold onto young children when watching the parades or enjoying the sights; obey traffic and parking laws to avoid hassles and potential injury; guard your wallets and credit cards, including PINs, when shopping in crowded stores. Always remember and remind others not to drink and drive. Take the time to enjoy the spirit of the season and stay safe! – Victor Rotolo Victor A. Awakening something primitive within me. Something that had forever stood still. He had liberated me from my previous stance. Moving me along with the rhythm, More than amazing after first glance. My veins filling with joy. Free from restriction, No shalls, no shants. I let my spirit free, So celebration may have a chance. Take $25 off when you mention the Clinton Twp Newsletter!
