Unfortunately, it also can be a hazardous time. According to the New Jersey Forest Fire Service (NJFFS), autumn and spring months pose the highest threat of wildfires to the State because that is when trees have the fewest leaves. The NJFFS reminds us not to build campfires when forecasts call for dry winds and, when we do build campfires, make sure they are completely extinguished before leaving them. This is advice that can be applied to backyard fires as well. Many of us use outdoor heaters and fire pits to help ward off the autumn chill. Outdoor fire safety laws vary from municipality to municipality so it is important to check with your local fire department to learn what is and isn't allowed in your area before starting your fire. Fire officials in Clinton Township enforce the New Jersey Uniform Fire Code which was enacted in 1983 in response to a large number of fire deaths during the 1960's, 1970's and 1980's. This Code states, in part, that open-flame devices used for cooking, as well as outdoor fireplaces, cannot be used on combustible decks or balconies or within five feet of a combustible structure. This also is the time of year many people start to light their candles inside as the autumn nights get longer. On average, there are 32 home candle fires reported per day across the country. It is best to use caution and make sure your candles are never near flammable materials or left to burn unmonitored. Another area of fire concern this time of year is Halloween. Many costumes and decorations, including dried cornstalks and crepe paper, are highly flammable. The use of candles or torches to light the way for trick-or-treaters increases this fire danger. The National Fire Prevention Association reports that in 1,000 home fires reported annually, decorations are the first to go up in flames, so make sure flammable items are kept a safe distance from all heat sources, even light bulbs. A few common sense precautions can keep our little goblins safe this Halloween and ensure friends and family enjoy these autumn months. – Victor Rotolo Sources: http://www.twp.maplewood.nj.us/DocumentCenter/Home/View?308 http://www.nfpa.org/safety-information/fire-prevention-week/fast-facts-about-fire http://www.section2wildfire.com/id16.html http://www.nfpa.org/~/media/Files/Safety%20information/Safety%20tip%20sheets/WoodPelletStoveSafety.pdf http://www.nfpa.org/~/media/Files/Safety%20information/Safety%20tip%20sheets/halloweensafetytips.pdf Victor A. It is the custom coordination of all of the tools we design; your logo/ signage, website content and multi-channel marketing, to your business's best advantage. Together our goal is to continuously build the community of interest around your busi- ness. When customers and clients love the products, services and people you provide, they will be fiercely loyal and share you with their friends and family. I know you love the hamster videos but this, dear readers, is what Facebook was really designed for! So we need to make it EASY for them. Siegel Photography clients who have embraced this mantra are seeing measurable results, in some cases surpassing their wildest dreams! Here's what we know for sure: 1. Settle on a look and feel, a BRAND for your business that you LOVE! In our A.D.D world, the feeling that comes from your brand must be attractive, clearly represent your business's function and be MEMORABLE. 2. Be stubbornly consistent. Use that brand at every outward facing opportunity. This means online, in print and on social media so that customers, business partners and community projects all see the same brand and messaging. 3. Don't be afraid to re-brand. Why will customers love it if you don't? This is where Siegel WebWorks comes in. We've been chanting this mantra, but not walking the walk. When Siegel Photography started in 2009, we knew we wanted to take pictures (but not weddings). I was thrilled when the domain SiegelPhotography. com was available and toddled off to built my brand in earnest from there. Photogra- phy is definitely a great differentiator for a website designer, but once someone threw my business card in their desk, the next time they looked I was a photographer. So we are happy to announce our new name, Siegel WebWorks, and hope it will help us place a picture in your mind's eye of who we are, along with a new, dynamic flow of useful content to keep it there. Make sure the WEB WORKS for your business! –Linda Siegel, linda@siegelphotography.com t h e g a r d e n c l u B o F h u n t e r d o n h I l l s c o - e x I s t I n g W I t h B e a r s Wednesday, October 22, 11 am • High Bridge Emergency Squad Bldg. 95 West Main St., High Bridge, NJ 08829 The Garden Club of Hunterdon Hills will hold a program about bears in New Jersey and how to peacefully co-exist with them.
