(908) 797-5091 www.clinton-autobody.com Prom and graduation will be here before you know it--if you're the parent of a high school teen, are you a member of the Safe Homes Directory? The Safe Homes program is a national initiative designed to coordinate pledges from local families who agree to host only supervised, drug and alcohol-free gatherings for teens at their homes. Safe Homes parents agree to cooperate with schools, law enforcement and young people to create a healthy atmosphere in which the use of alcohol and other drugs is no longer the "norm." Safe Homes parents are taking a stand against the alarming increase in alcohol and drug use among our youth. Safe Homes parents pledge to: • not allow parties and gatherings when they are not at home • not serve or allow youth under the legal drinking age of 21 to consume alcohol in their house or on their property • not allow the use of illicit drugs at their home or on their property Safe Homes pledge forms are distributed to all high school parents by each of the county high schools at the start of each school year. All parents who complete a pledge form are added to the Safe Homes Directory, which parents can then access to see if the home where their child is going to a party has also pledged to be alcohol and drug-free. The Directory can be found on the Safe Communities Coalition website, www.safecoalition.org. Only Safe Homes parents have access to the online Directory. For more information about the Safe Homes Directory, or if you are interested in signing up, please contact Cathy Canterino of the Safe Com- munities Coalition at 908.782.3909. Once a parent has completed a pledge form and your family has been added to the Directory, you will receive an email with information on how to register online to access the Directory. The goal of the Safe Communities Coalition is to live in a safe and healthy commu- nity by eliminating drug use, underage drinking and prescription drug abuse. Through wide-spread community collaboration, environmental change and community education in Hunterdon and Somerset counties, the Safe Communities Coalition will address areas of concern including, but not limited to, reducing Rx drug abuse across the lifespan, underage drinking, tobacco, marijuana, heroin and other drug use. For more information on the Coalition, visit their website at: www.safecoalition.org. B e a " S a f e h o M e " D u r i n g t h i S p r o M a n D g r a D u a t i o n S e a S o n ! ! ! At its Celebrating New Beginnings Gala on April 25 at Beaver Brook Country Club, Anderson House honored local volunteers (l to r) Patricia Steingall, Henry and Donna (not pictured) Passarotti and Pa- tricia A. McKiernan, who have been dedi- cated to the mission of Anderson House for many years. The event profited over $40,000 to help wom- en recovering from alcoholism and drug addiction, many of whom are from Hunterdon and Somerset Counties, build bright futures for themselves and their children. The Hunterdon County Chamber of Commerce will hold its first annual Hunterdon County Community Day on Saturday, June 21, noon-8 pm at South County Park, on Route 173 in Ringoes, location of the County's 4-H and Agricultural Fair. Admission is free to attend and it will take place rain or shine. "A good number of our towns and boroughs have their own Community Day, but the Chamber wanted to have a county-wide event, especially on the heels of Hunterdon's 300th Birthday. This is an opportunity to celebrate all things Hunterdon; we will be bringing all 26 municipalities of the county together to showcase what makes this area a great place to work and live," said Chris Phelan, President of the Chamber. The day will be filled with fun family activities, such as a petting zoo, pony rides, puppet shows put on by Hunterdon Prevention Resources, reptile shows presented by Reptile World, outdoor children games, a dunk tank, food vendors, demonstrations from our local businesses and historical sites and much more. The day ends with a drive-in movie at dark, reminiscent of the County's only drive-in movie theater that operated from 1950 to 1986 at South County Park. The Chamber would like to thank Hunterdon Healthcare for being Community Day's Title Sponsor. Sponsorship opportunities at various levels are available. Businesses and nonprofit organizations are encouraged to participate in Community Day by signing up as a vendor. Business vendors are available for $200 and nonprofit vendors for $100. For more information, visit www.hunterdon-chamber.org or call the office at 908.782.7115.
