The purpose of this meeting was to focus on mandated ethics training and to set Board goals for the 2013-2014 School year. This is usually done in the spring, but it was decided that with some new Board members elected, it would be a good time to reorganize. This was a positive and collaborative process. It began with a review of the New Jersey Code of Ethics for school board members and school officials. Several aspects of the code and "real life" applications were reviewed. The impact of social media and potential issues it can raise were also discussed. Next, the Board and Superintendent came to consensus on goals for the rest of the school year: 1. Student Achievement–Consistently implementing a rigorous curriculum that is grounded in New Jersey Core Content Standards and is reflective of the needs of a 21st century learner. Focus will be on the following: • Implementation of Middle School Math Program • Elementary Level English Language Arts • Writing across the curriculum • Professional Development aligned to NJCCS and Achieve NJ 2. Develop a supportive environment that enhances education for all student and enables all children to become productive citizens. Focus will be on the following: • Student programs for Community Outreach • Peer to Peer Programs/Mentoring • Responsible usage of social media. 3. The Clinton Township School District will engage and involve the Community in a mutually beneficial partnership. The focus will be: • Communications in all areas –particularly our Budget • Expand community attendance and participation at board meetings and events Once the Board approves them, the Superintendent will set action plans and these will be accepted by the Board. Citizens can look forward to a year of positive work and focus on student growth and facilities updates. The Clinton Township School Board remains caring and working to make a difference for children and families in Clinton Township. Please join our meetings and share your dreams for the future of our schools and students.
