Shakespeare so pointedly coined the phrase that has transcended age, background and education. The beauty of music is that it can be studied at any age-even preschool age. Jen Gursky, owner of Encore Music Studio in Clinton, believes in the importance of early child- hood music education, "Music has been proven to help children develop creative thinking skills, build self-confidence and self-awareness, and aid in children's motor skills development." In addition to Encore's private instrumental and voice instruction, the Clinton studio is launching Encore Music Box! This 12 week program provides 50 minute classes for preschoolers and kinder- garteners to learn the "3 Rs of music," find their voice with the "Hello Song," and play musical instruments together. Taught by education veteran, Carina Gustafsson, children and parents will explore music in a creative and fun-filled class! Encore Music Studio is now accepting students for their spring Pre-school and Kindergarten Music Box Classes. s t e F a n i e p o L i t i p h o t o g R a p h y Specializing in Newborn and Child Photography Did you know that within the first 10 days of baby's arrival is the best time to capture those sweet, sleepy newborn memories? Hit the gym!" Most people get tired of hearing the same advice over and over again, especially in the beginning of a new year. In part one of a two part series I will reveal some of the most powerful Secrets of Exercise. These tips have been very successful in motivating individuals to keep exercising in order to see rewarding results. "Surprise" your muscles. Let your brain trick your body by doing different moves, varying workouts by using different muscles in the body. We have over 600 muscles in our body and still most people only use a very limited number of them when they work out. Our body is built to adjust to unusual circumstances and our muscles are configured to adapt to new challenges. By varying the outside demands placed on the body, the muscles will get stronger, leaner and faster. Variation, variation, variation. Boredom is the main reason why people give up exercise. Mix up your workouts; don't do the same routine every day. Take aerobic classes, go outside for walks or bike rides, hit the machines in the gym or use free weights. Go swimming in indoor/outdoor pools, try a new sport, play basketball or tennis. Try kayaking or paddle boarding on a beautiful day or sledding and ski- ing on a snowy day. Dancing with friends is an excellent and fun way to get some exercise. There are so many possibilities! Trying new activities keeps your interest peaked and helps you stay on track. Schedule your workout in your calendar. Just like any other appointment you would make with your doctor, dentist or any other important date. If that does not keep you motivated, ask a friend to join you for the workout. Try to schedule other appointments such as a haircut or lunch around your own "Workout Appointment." Make exercise a daily habit. A daily routine is hard to break, similar to show- ering and brushing your teeth. Even a little activity is better than none and as we get accustomed to moving, we look forward to doing more and different things. I hope these tips motivate you to begin an exercise program or help you on your journey to sticking with your exercise program. Exercise is such an important part of living a healthy, fulfilling life. (Remember to consult with your physician if exercise is something new for you.)
