SAFE in Hunterdon to Host 2014 Evening of Awareness ...continued from page 1 health and addiction, media violence and school security measures play in protecting the safety of New Jersey residents. In November of last year, Peter was honored by Crime Stoppers of Hunterdon County for his role in crime prevention within our County. He currently practices law at Sills Cummis & Gross, P.C. Lisa and Peter are committed to the mission of SAFE in Hunterdon, especially as it relates to the protection of children and provision of mental health care. They believe that by encouraging a dialogue about domestic violence and recognizing that it happens in our community, we can all become part of the solution. "We want to encourage a community effect by which victims are em- powered to become survivors and can, in turn, help others break the cycle of abuse, " Lisa said. Peter added, "When anyone in our community is in harm's way, no one is safe. The home is supposed to be our sanctuary and when it is violated, the entire community suffers. We ask our friends and neighbors to pause and consider how this impacts us all and what we can do to support victims of abuse." SAFE in Hunterdon recently renovated and reopened its residential hous- ing. "THRIVE" is SAFE's residential and economic empowerment program for survivors of domestic violence and sexual abuse. THRIVE provides emergency shelter and supporting services for victims and their children as well as a long-term residential program under which survivors can stay with their families for up to two years. Funds are needed to maintain the THRIVE house and for the other vital services provided by SAFE, including the 24-hour hotline, legal advocacy, crisis intervention, counseling, community education and PALS, a unique children's arts therapy program. Funds raised at the 2014 Evening of Awareness will support individuals and families affected by domestic and sexual abuse with a wide range of free, confidential programs and services. The event will feature gourmet food stations, live music, silent and live auctions and an opportunity to connect with friends and colleagues (event tickets $150 each). Those interested in being a part of this special evening can become a corporate or individual sponsor or donate to the live and silent auctions. For reservations, sponsorship opportunities or to make a donation, please contact Jaime Schultz at SAFE: 908.788.7666 x 204 or accounting@safeinhunterdon.org. About SAFE in Hunterdon: In an atmosphere of professionalism, excellence and compassion, the mission of SAFE in Hunterdon is to empower adult and child survivors of domestic and sexual abuse, while collaborating with our community to prevent vio- lence and create positive social change. Please help this worthy cause by becoming a sponsor, donating to the silent auction, and/or volunteering your time to SAFE of Hunterdon. Thank You in Advance–Candice Teuber and Julie Flynn
