F a C T : p e o p l e w i T h d e m e n T i a C a n ' T l e a r n n e w T h i n g s Myth: Once someone has dementia, they can no longer learn. Fact: While dementia affects the brain's ability to create and retain new memories, many people can still learn through repetition, routine, and experience. They may not remember being taught a new activity, but with consistent practice, the skill itself can become familiar. This is why familiar routines, music, movement, and meaningful activities are so important. A person living with dementia may not remember yesterday's conversation, but they can still experience joy, build confidence, and develop comfort with a new daily routine or activity. At Courtyard Adult Day Center, we see these moments every day as participants continue to discover purpose, confidence, and meaningful connection through engaging, person-centered activities. Instead of focusing on what has been lost, we can support the abilities that remain. Learning may look different than it once did, but growth, connection, and purpose are still possible. Dementia changes the way a person learns—it does not take away their humanity or their ability to experience success. To learn more about our programs or upcoming Open House events, contact Courtyard Adult Day Center at 908-388-9094, email HelloADC@CourtyardSL.com, or visit CourtyardADC.com.
