On Sunday, May 17, Joel Farkas will take the Tewksbury Historical Society on a visual tour, George Washington and Morristown: Perfect Together. This event takes place at the Christian Education Building of the Zion Lutheran Church, 18 Miller Avenue, Oldwick, 08858, at 1:00 pm. Guests are welcome! The tour will explore why Washington chose Morristown twice for his winter encampments; will walk The Morristown Green, pointing out the historic places surrounding the property; then on to the Schuyler-Hamilton House (Alexander Hamilton's connection to Morristown) and the Ford Mansion. There will be a "detour" to the Great Falls of the Passaic River and a Morristown return to visit Thomas Paine in Burnham Park. The "tour" ends at Jockey Hollow where the men experienced an extremely harsh winter. GEORGE WASHINGTON: Commander In Chief of The Continental Army, and MORRISTOWN, NJ: Military Capital of The Revolutionary War – perfect together! Joel Farkas is a graduate of Ohio State University. In addition to lecturing at Fairleigh Dickinson University, he is also a National Park Service volunteer docent at Washington Headquarters, Morristown, and a lecturer at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Rutgers University. He is the recipient of the National Park Service Centennial Volunteer Challenge Award. The Tewksbury Historical Society is a New Jersey not-for-profit corporation, organized for the purpose of furthering research into, and the preservation and dissemination of, the history of the Township of Tewksbury. This annual event is held to recognize those Municipal police officers in Hunterdon, State Police who service Hunterdon and Warren Counties, Hunterdon volunteer firefighters and first aid squad members, Sheriff's officers, members of the Prosecutor's office and citizens of Hunterdon County who go above and beyond the call of duty in performing extraordinary service in risking their lives to save others. The cost per person to attend is $ 85 or is included in one's membership should they join the 200 Club. Over 50 years ago a Detroit businessman elicited generous responses when he asked 100 business friends to contribute $200 each to the family of a young local police officer who was fatally wounded in the line of duty. This selfless act was the beginning of the "200 Club". The 200 Club of Hunterdon County was established in 1976 as a NJ not-for-profit corporation to provide financial assistance to families of any police officer, fire, rescue and emergency management personnel providing such services to the citizens of Hunterdon County who have lost their lives or become disabled in the line of duty. The Club stands ready at a moment's notice to provide assistance should the need ever arise. The Club is governed by a 15 member Board of Trustees consisting of Hunterdon and Warren County residents who serve three-year terms. Officers of the Club include President Shaun C. Van Doren, Vice President Mary H. Melfi, Secretary Rich Reiner and Treasurer Les Hall. Anyone interested in supporting and furthering the mission and goals of the 200 Club of Hunterdon County is eligible for membership. All prospective members must be sponsored by a member in good standing and have the approval of the Board of Trustees. Initial dues are $200 per member and annual dues of $100. Each member receives identification from the 200 Club of Hunterdon County establishing his/her membership. The Club enjoys the full support and endorsement of police, fire and emergency service organizations in Hunterdon County and throughout the State, including the New Jersey State Police. The 200 Club receives its income from dues, continuing annual support of its members, and the Golf Outing with the Hunterdon County Chiefs of Police Association. It is registered IRS 501c 3 and State of New Jersey charity, with annual reports filed with both the IRS and State of NJ. For those wishing to attend the dinner on May 14 or receive a membership application, please email the Club Secretary at: 200clubofhunterdon@gmail. com or visit the club's website: www.200ClubOfHunterdon.org to download a membership application.
