C O M www.ctsdnj.org C L I N T O N T O W N S H I P S C H O O L N E W S When buying a home or selecting a place to live, there are a number of factors that influence the decision. Of course, there are considerations such as cost, proximity to family and friends, community features, etc. However, for new families of school-aged children, one of the largest factors is the quality of the schools. Clinton Township has had three years of academic growth due to the hard work of our teachers. As Artificial Intelligence (AI) starts playing a larger role in society, it will be crucial that in PK- 8 we set students up to read, write, and calculate well, and of course, think critically. There have been a number of improvements and additions we have made to the student experience to ensure our students are ready for high school and beyond. Here are some of the improvements made in the past three years We have: • piloted and adopted a new science curriculum, K-8 • added regular learning diagnostics where we share the results so teachers and families have information on their child's progress • adapted our ELA curriculum to focus on both the Science of Reading and an increase in writing • implemented a capstone project in 5th and 8th grade, where students research a topic of choice, and present their work • increased access to Algebra in the 8th grade • adopted a standards-aligned math program in K-8 • created a dedicated intervention time so students do not have a disruption in learning to get support This is just a smattering of what we have done to positively impact student learning and growth. If you add that to our focus on helping charities with event like Relay for Life, our Entrepreneurship Program TREP$, our excellent musical and art programs, and the additional learning activities offered by the school, our strong special education programs, as well as enrichment activities through the Clinton Township Education Foundation and the Parent Teacher Association, it is clear there are exceptional opportunities for all students. As the township continues to grow and we adjust to major employers like Exxon moving out, we will continue to adapt to keep what makes this district great. As a result, people will continue to choose to live in a great community like Clinton Township. – Sincerely, Dr. Melissa Stager, Ed.D., Superintendent, CTSD A MESSAGE FROM DR.
