2 1 d e c e m b e r 2 0 2 5 Happy Hanukkah! 5 W o m e n ' S F o r u m : S H a r i n g W i S d o m Dear Ladies, This month we honor two American Icons, a woman and a landmark that have stood out in our culture as exceptional. First, from the creation of a persona whose timeless style image will reside comfortably with that of the Hepburns, Coco and Jackie, and secondly to one of the treasured landmarks that transforms the center of a steel and glass metropolis into a sparkling holiday dreamscape. Our American Cultural Icons, this month we salute two unforgettables. DIANE KEATON: In her own inimitable way, she rocked pop culture when she "turned up" as Annie Hall, creating an American Style Icon for the ages. Leaving us too soon, her image lingers as does her story. More than a dramatic powerhouse, this lady was a businesswoman, an interior designer, a writer, a singer and a devoted mother of two, true to her brilliant creative artistry to the end. At our December Luncheon, Women's Forum pays homage to the "It Girl" of the Boomer Generation with one of her best films ever! I would guess that many of you have seen it at least once. We'll bid her a fond adieu with Something's Gotta Give, as our Diane plays the highly accomplished yet vulnerable woman to Jack Nicholson's soon-to-be vanquished lothario! Tribute Luncheon to Diane Keaton: Thursday December 4 at noon. Dillon Library, Bedminster. Admission is $20. *To register, see below. MOMA MIDTOWN & THE HOLIDAYS: Among all of the traditional American landmarks, this one has a special magical timelessness. It happens once a year, every year, and its beauty and wonder makes children of us all, and beckons to visitors from every corner of the world. Those of us who grew up in this part of the country remember it as a customary stop at the holidays. New York City's Fifth Avenue and the Tree at Rockefeller Center at Holiday Time is as iconic as it gets! A December trip to MOMA is becoming a tradition with us. Perfect that the museum sits right in the heart of Midtown among all the splendor of the holiday season. We arrive right to where "the action is" and if the weather is tolerable, a walk along the Avenue to where all the luxury shops festooned like beautiful jewel boxes lead to Bergdorf's Windows – always a masterpiece of fantasy and design! Then circle back to Saks Windows, another legend of artistic splendor. By wonderful coincidence, reflected in Saks windows is the headliner, Rockefeller Center and the one and only Holiday Tree! … AND THEN THERE'S MOMA!! Our December visit to NYC is truly a gift for the senses, the imagination and the heart. TRIP TO MOMA & MIDTOWN: Thursday December 18. Bus leaves Dillon Library, Bedminster at 9:00 am. Return pickup at MOMA 3:00 pm. Admission is $45. (Does not include entry to museum.) *To register see below. * To register for our events reach us at: womensforumusa@gmail. com. Upcoming dates for WF: January 8 & 29. February 12 & 26. Wishing each of you a Joyful Holiday Season!! So very grateful for your support of Women's Forum. On to 2026! You can buy cards for a favorite store, a special restaurant, a new experience. There are many choices. And if none of those fit, there are general gift cards that let the recipient shop wherever they want. What could go wrong? ... SCAMMERS! Gift card scams are alive and well and come in almost as many varieties as the gift cards themselves. • Scammers capture the serial numbers and PINs off the cards using electronic devices or simply by copying the information from the backs of the cards before repackaging them. Then, once the cards are purchased and activated, the scammers have the information to siphon the money into their own pockets. • Posing as representatives of government agencies, IT specialists, or even a romantic interest, scammers call, text, or email their targets to manipulate them out of money through the purchase of gift cards. In recent months several states, New Jersey among them, have taken steps to make gift card scams harder to carry off. Those steps include: • requiring more secure, tamper-resistant packaging on credit cards • making the card PIN available only at checkout • training retail employees to identify the red flags associated with gift card scams • mandating stores prominently post warnings near card kiosks; those warnings should include instructions on what consumers should do if they suspect a scam Retailers that fail to comply with New Jersey's stricter requirements, which took effect October 1, would face civil penalties including fines for each violation. Educate yourself. Heed the posted warnings. Remember that no government agency would request payment via gift cards. And if you get a text or email from a friend or acquaintance, talk to them before taking any action to make sure their "need" is legitimate. Buyer beware is your best defense.
