Hunterdon County's many historical and cultural organizations
have just kicked off a 16-month celebration of American
Independence and the American Revolution in Hunterdon County.
Did you know that many battles and other important events took
place in our county during colonial days?
Now through December 31, 2026, there will be over 150 lectures,
talks, tours, music, movies, and fun! Events include (but not limited
to):
1. A celebration parade in Flemington Borough for Flag Day, June 14, 2026!
2. A re-enactment of the reading of the Declaration of Independence, which was
first read aloud (outside of Philadelphia) in Hunterdon County on July 8, 1776!
3. A lecture to celebrate Black History Month on a free black man who served
in the Hunterdon Militia, crossed the Delaware River with George Washington,
and is buried in Flemington!
4. A final talk at the end of 2026 on the Ten Crucial Days of the Revolution!
