we gather around tables filled with family, food, and
gratitude; the word abundance kept coming to mind. It
felt like the perfect theme for this month's issue.
According to U.S. News & World Report, our beautiful
and bucolic Hunterdon County ranks as the wealthiest
county in New Jersey and the 37th wealthiest in the nation.
Yet, despite those statistics, food insecurity still exists here,
and the need continues to rise.
Fortunately, Hunterdon County is also home to several
wonderful organizations working hard to ensure no one goes
hungry. If you or someone you know is experiencing a crisis and
needs help providing food, local food pantries are ready to assist.
And if you've been fortunate this year and wish to give back, through
donations, volunteering, or even shopping at thrift stores that fund
these pantries, your support will make a meaningful difference.
Open Cupboard Food Pantry: (www.OpenCupboardFoodPantry.
org) Since 1993, Open Cupboard has distributed more than 2 million
pounds of food with the help of over 1,700 volunteers, serving 8,600
people across 22 communities.
Flemington Area Food Pantry: (www.FlemingtonFoodPantry.org)
Serving all of Hunterdon County, this pantry's mission is "to promote
the health and well-being of our community by offering nutritious
foods and essentials, fostering resource connections, providing tailored
programming, and respecting the dignity of our neighbors in need."
Norwescap Food Bank: (www.Norwescap.org) Norwescap works
through a network of local partners, including food pantries and soup
kitchens, to ensure every individual in our community has access to
the nutritious food needed for a healthy life.
Fisherman's Mark Food Pantry: (www.FishermansMark.org)
This pantry provides a welcoming, store-like environment along with
case management services to help address the root causes of food
insecurity. Its FLY (Feeding Local Youth) Lunch Program supports
children year-round, including during summer breaks.
For more local resources, call 211, visit NJ211.org, or text your
ZIP code to 898-211.
Wishing you and your family a blessed
Thanksgiving, one filled with gratitude,
generosity, and true abundance.
