That's life in Hunterdon County. My husband trapped and released it after finding it asleep (awww) clinging to an air vent in our bathroom. Fly, be free, and go catch lots of insects Mr. (or Miss) Bat... I get a lot of praise for this publication (thank you!!) but often I ask our readers for constructive criticism, as well. A couple of years ago a woman I know said, "I was upset that you didn't mention Veteran's Day in your November issue." It's not a good excuse, but the reason is that I'm often working on each issue a month or two before the actual month, and I just don't think. I decided (after apologizing) that it would be a good idea to start running the block of copy you see below, Days To Keep In Mind. For each issue, I look up the holidays for that month (on www.Calendarr. com) and I pick and choose what seems important to me and to others, with some random ones added in. For example, in addition to the list you see below, for October this website lists dozens of holidays. If we were to celebrate them all, I'd consider buying Hallmark stock. To wit: National Taco Day (10/4), National Vodka Day (10/4), National Cinnamon Roll Day (10/4), National Chocolate Cupcake Day (10/18), National Breadstick Day (10/25), National Pumpkin Day (10/26), National Chocolate Day (10/28), and National Caramel Apple Day (10/31). Add to that National Plus-Size Appreciation Day (10/6), National Dessert Day (10/14), and National Inner-Beauty Day (10/7); I think there might be a conspiracy afoot. There are the holidays that, in my opinion, should be every day: World Smile Day (10/4), National Do-Something-Nice Day (10/5), National Savings Day (10/12), Global Handwashing Day (10/15), National Clean Your Virtual Desktop Day (10/22), National "I Care About You" Day (10/25), National "Make A Difference" Day (10/26), and the ones that are every day (for me): World Arthritis Day (10/12), National Checklist Day (10/30) and Internet Day (10/29). The people who put these lists together must have a great sense of humor. There's: Mean Girls Day (10/3), National No-Bra Day (10/13), National "Get Funky" Day (10/5 – but how does one celebrate?), and National 'Fetch' Day (10/19, "Gretchen, stop trying to make 'Fetch" happen!"). I would be remiss if I didn't remind you of National Mammography Day (10/18). My newest favorite holiday? Our oldest son recently got married to a fabulous girl, so it's National Mother-in-Law Day (10/27)! Whatever you choose to celebrate, I hope your month is sweet! Sweetest Day (10/19). –Julie Flynn
