Mane Stream (adaptive riding and therapy services) is seeking
donations of new and gently used tack or horse related items for
its Tack Sale to be held on Sunday, November 17 from 8:00 am to
3:00 pm. Mane Stream has a contactless drop-off for unwanted bridles,
saddles, blankets, tack boxes as well as out grown boots, breeches, jackets,
and any horse related jewelry, models or knick-knacks. Make a difference by
supporting the Mane Stream mission to improve the quality of life for children
and adults with physical, developmental, emotional and medical challenges
through a diverse program of equine assisted activities, therapy services and
educational initiatives.
This event is an important part of the yearly fundraising plan
with all proceeds to benefit Mane Stream's horses, adaptive riding program,
therapy services (OT, PT, SLP, Counseling), and other equine assisted programs
including "Horses for Healing: Cancer and Parkinson's Disease." All donations
can be dropped off at the stable at 83 Old Turnpike Rd. Oldwick office

Sunday, September 8, 11:00 am to 4:00 pm at the Bouman-
Stickney Farmstead | FREE, but donations are WELCOME
The Readington Museums is pleased to announce that Michael
Carver, the Regimental Brewmeister, will be at the Bouman-
Stickney Farmstead to demonstrate Colonial Beer Brewing.
Throughout the afternoon, Carver will show the step-by-step process of turning
water and grain into beer. For hundreds of years, Europeans observed that
people who drank water sometimes became deathlv ill while those who drank
spirits and beer did not. Everyone, therefore brewed and drank beer, from
children to adults. Consequently, when people immigrated to the New World,
they brought their tradition of brewing and drinking beer with them. Though
today you will find exotic flavors or seasonal brews, the basic method of beer
production has not changed.
As a chemist, Michael Carver was fascinated by the brewing
process and began brewing beer in 1994. He later began interpreting
and reenacting as an 18th century soldier. After producing beer for the
regiment's libations, he decided to study colonial brewing and then created
a new persona of journeyman brewer. His goal is, "to bring history alive
through interactive portrayal of ordinary American life in the late
18th Century" Carver's other historic impressions include 18th C. surveyor
and scientist (often as a first-person portrayal of David Rittenhouse), black/
whitesmith, cordwainer, spymaster, and more. He has reenacted at Washington
Crossings, Historic Philadelphia, Independence Historical National Park, Foit
Mifflin, the Joseph Priestley House, Historic Rittenhouse Town, and many
other historic sites throughout NJ, PA, and DE.
