This cute kid from the Bronx – with a sense of style, an eye for beauty, a doggedness and confidence that would take him from the proverbial "pounding of the pavement" trying to sell his novel, wide ties THEN to NOW – the heights of the design universe – with exquisite shops and collections all over the world, that bear his name. Everyone knows him... the lifestyle, the clothes, the decor, the restaurants, the ubiquitous Polo logo, the uniform for the US Olympic team, even the coffee – so very very American! So very, very Ralph Lauren!! For me, having had a career in the fashion industry, the month of August has always been less about Summer and more about The Fall Fashions! As a teen, mid-month meant the daily pilgrimage to the newsstand to see if the September issue of Vogue had arrived; and if it had, (treasure of treasures!) to get home and pore over it for days and days and get to the sewing machine for my own "inspired" ensembles. Back then, the notion of style and elegance was firmly planted in the couture, mostly out of Paris but with nascent stirrings out of Milan, London, Madrid and, of course, New York. Concurrent with the revolutionary sixties, Ralph Lauren started building his empire in New York and the world was watching. RL set the benchmark for an American style that both harkens to the refinement and sophistication of the past and is as modern as tomorrow. And, if applied properly, which flatters everyone, at every age! RALPH LAUREN gave American Fashion and the American Lifestyle its truest identity on the world stage. This August, Women's Forum pays tribute to the designer's designer - RALPH LAUREN with the documentary, Very Ralph. We'll immerse ourselves in his life story, his climb to the top, the collections, his homes and all the glamour and brilliant design that is the Ralph Lauren Brand. RL Luncheon Thursday, August 8 at noon. Dillon Library in Bedminster. To register, email us at: womensforumusa@gmail.com. Upcoming events: As you've noticed, there's only one session in August (WF needs a little beauty sleep!) September Sessions are on the 12th and 26th. Stay cool ~ very cool, Evelyn Breheney Glynn, Founder/Director, Women's Forum Want extra copies of the Clinton Township Newsletter? It was that day when the end of summer intersects perfectly with the start of fall." ~ Ann Patche U W h C – S U p p O R t i N g O U R C O M M U N i t y F O R O v E R t h i R t y y E a R S United Way of Hunterdon County has been supporting our community for more than thirty years to ensure that every individual has the opportunity to thrive.
