August seems like a month for great creativity and for using one's
imagination so, with that in mind, here's my latest "Wouldn't It Be
Cool If" column, in no particular order, whatsoever.
• Wouldn't it be cool if we could just call our friends and loved ones
who have passed away? I would love to just have 30 seconds to ask,
"How're you doing? Are you good?" That's all I'm asking for...
• Wouldn't it be cool if we
could have peace on earth
for one day? One week? One
month? One year? To that
end, around the late sixties,
my oldest brother had a
funky poster in his room that
I thought about all the time;
it looked like this.
☞
• Mostly all of us are driving
cars that are white, black,
blue, red, tan and gray.
Wouldn't it be cool if our
vehicles were all multi-
colored, or wrapped with
colorful prints? And think of
how easy they'd be to find in
a parking lot.
• Wouldn't it be cool if we could continue to keep our green spaces
green in Hunterdon County?
• Wouldn't it be cool if you could actually see the history of our county
play out... as it happened? Okay, admittedly, this could be really scary,
as in the movie "The Sixth Sense", but I often try to imagine all of those
people who walked these roads before us, who worked in these fields,
who lived in these houses, who drank at these taverns.
• Wouldn't it be cool if our political parties could work together for
the betterment of our country – peacefully and respectfully? (Okay,
that's all I'm saying in this issue politically, I promise.)
• Wouldn't it be cool if you could actually hear "the stories that
people are telling themselves to survive," as the writer Joan Didion
once famously wrote? It might make us more compassionate towards
them or, it might possibly infuriate us – but it would be fascinating.
• Wouldn't it be cool if y'all could contribute to this " Wouldn't it be cool
if " column? As a matter of fact, please do let me know what you think
would be "cool". In the meantime,
stay cool during this hot month!
