Chartered by Congress in 1958, The Military
Order of the Purple Heart is composed of
military men and women who received the
Purple Heart Medal for wounds suffered in
combat. Although our membership is restricted to
the combat wounded and associate members, we support
all veterans and their families with a myriad of nation-wide
programs by Chapters and National Service Officers.
Who We Are: The Richard Betts Chapter 700 is
comprised of combat wounded veterans, associate
members and volunteers from Hunterdon and
Warren counties. What We Do: • Visit veterans
in eighteen nursing homes throughout Hunterdon
and Warren counties, providing Christmas gifts
to each veteran in the homes, along with providing
entertainment and companionship. • Visit schools in
Hunterdon and Warren counties, sharing our service
experiences, history of the Purple Heart and answering questions.
• Contribute to scholarships for the children of veterans. • Provide
resource information to assist veterans, their dependents and survivors, in
obtaining their rightful benefits. • Provide resource information to help
veterans and their family members obtain/replace lost or stolen medals.
• Place flags on the graves of veterans. • Attend flag retirement and
other ceremonies. • Participate in the installment of monuments
in Hunterdon and Warren counties honoring both living and deceased
Purple Heart recipients. • Participate in parades and celebrations in
Hunterdon and Warren counties.
How Your Donation is Spent: Your donations are spent on veterans in
both Hunterdon and Warren counties. A minimal percentage of your donation
helps us to maintain our insurance, which is required for a 501(c)19 Veterans
Service Organization. No member of Chapter 700 receives payment of any
kind, nor are any of the funds diverted to any other entity of the MOPH.
