One of the reasons I so love living in a temperate climate is the display/show that Mother Nature puts on for us every few months, especially going from Winter into Spring. There's an energy in the air, the longer days, the warmer temps, the bursts of color everywhere. From our gardens to our cuisine to our wardrobes, Spring sings of rebirth, renewal, rediscovery! As a welcome to this invigorating season, in April WF honors two facets of human endeavor and creativity that enrich and beautify our lives. We start with writers, those gifted people who fill the pages of books and our imaginations with their stories and poems ~and then~ the visual artist in the person of a master photographer whose dramatic images defined "the look, the face" of glamour throughout most of our lives. Women of Letters: A few months ago I sent out a call to the writers among us. I am happy to tell you that for our event on April 11, we will be seating a panel of three writers each of which will share the story of her journey to become a crafter of the written word, will read a selection of her work and join us in a discussion and Q&A. Writers Ann Huber, Donna Baier Stein and Louisa LoCasio Matarazzo will grace Women's Forum as they form our panel and afterward will be available with books for purchase and signing. Writers Luncheon, Thursday April 11 at noon. Dillon Library. Admission $20. Known primarily for a body of fashion photography that can only be described as iconic with photos of such refined artistry that they remain timeless; Avedon was also a portraitist whose sensitivity revealed - in the faces of the mighty and the meek - the heights and the depths of humanity. Richard Avedon talks to Charlie Rose in a compelling interview. Avedon Luncheon, Thursday April 25 at noon. Admission $20. Wishing you sunny days and peaceful nights, – Evelyn Breheney Glynn ps. I want to share with you a site that I found on YouTube when I was doing all the Du Maurier research. It's called Desert Island Discs. It's presented in an interview format. The premise is if you were to find yourself stranded on a desert island, what three pieces of music would you have to have with you? I found Daphne d M. 's interview from way back when and just noticed today that there is one with the man of the hour, Academy Award winner Cillian Murphy. I haven't heard this last one, but Daphne's was very charming!
