Scouts, leaders and families met recently for the Troop's annual Winter Court of Honor, an opportunity to celebrate the recent rank and merit badge accomplishments of the Scouts, as well as acknowledge the contributions of the many adult leaders who support the Troop. A potluck dinner celebrated "The World of Scouting", and everyone enjoyed an array of delicious international dishes from around the world, all cooked by Troop 288 families. Troop 288 ran and participated in the Hunterdon Arrowhead District Klondike Derby at Lebanon Twp Memorial Park this winter and had a blast! With 12 local troops and 19 patrols competing at 12 different skill stations, ranging from orienteering and fire building, to teamwork and sled racing, there was plenty of challenge. One Troop 288 patrol even set an impressive record of two minutes, 46 seconds at the fire building station! Other highlights included some tasty "Klondike Stew", fun campfire skits, and an Order of the Arrow callout recognizing Troop 288's newly elected candidates of Scouting's National Honor Society. All of the local Scouts attending this event were asked to bring canned soup to benefit a local food pantry, and as a result 224lbs of soup were delivered to The Open Cupboard Food Pantry in Clinton. Additionally, Troop 288 partnered with Troop 432 to collect hundreds of pounds of food donations from the generous shoppers at ShopRite of Clinton during Hunterdon Arrowhead District's "Scouting for Food" drive on February 10. With the help of adult leaders, these donations were transferred to Open Cupboard to help keep their shelves stocked for neighbors in need. On Saturday, March 9, BSA Troop 288 will host its 24th Annual Spaghetti & Meatball Fundraiser Dinner at Annandale Reformed Church (located at corner of Beaver Avenue & West Street in Annandale). Our friends, family and local community are invited to enjoy dinner from 4-7:00 pm, which will include salad, spaghetti and meatballs, bread, dessert and beverages. The cost is $12 for adults, $9 for seniors and $7 for children aged 5-12. (Children 4-under: free). Please come out and show your support to the youth that volunteer their time and efforts to help neighbors and organizations throughout the community with their many hours of service projects and individual Eagle Scout projects! BSA Troop 288 meets on Tuesday evenings at 7:30 pm in the Fellowship Hall at Annandale Reformed Church, and welcomes new members to join us.
