April is Autism Acceptance Month! You may have heard lots of people calling April autism awareness month and those people wouldn't be wrong. However, we'd like to offer you the alternative of autism acceptance month! Most folks have done a great job making themselves aware of the autism spectrum, so we would like to give you the opportunity to think about how you can practice autism acceptance. We can practice autism acceptance in so many ways, but at Patrick McGaheran and Round Valley Elementary Schools, we would like to highlight some of our favorite ways. • We celebrate our differences and our strengths! Students and staff are always happy to celebrate those special talents and strengths that make our school community vibrant and fun! • We lift each other up! A big part of practicing autism acceptance is recognizing that everyone is growing and learning at different speeds and we are proud of all our accomplishments. The only thing greater than accomplishing our goals is accomplishing them in the company of our friends! • We focus on making connections with each other. This could mean a friendly hello in the hallway or working together on an important project. When we make connections with each other, we begin to understand that we are all much more alike than different! You might have also noticed that the traditional blue puzzle piece and the multi-colored puzzle piece ribbon have been joined by a new symbol, the rainbow infinity symbol. The purpose of the infinity symbol is to convey the idea that autistic people are not puzzles to be solved, but rather people who live a broad and varied spectrum of experiences. Clinton Township Middle School The TREP$ Marketplace will return to CTMS this year, and we have 180 middle school students participating this year! Students work in small groups or on their own, designing their own products and businesses. They learn about planning, creating, budgeting, marketing, and sales. TREPPER$ will hold a marketplace on Wednesday, April 26 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Clinton Township Middle School, and everyone is invited to stop by and shop. Come and see what these young entrepreneurs can do! LAW FAIR: The New Jersey Bar Foundation sponsors an annual mock trial competition, and five CTMS teams entered this year. Congratulations to our 6th grade, period five, Law Fair Team, who wrote a case about child custody. Out of 91 entries in New Jersey, they won an honorable mention, which equates to third place! Now, they will turn their case into a script and prepare to present it in front of a judge and jury. Congratulations!
