"And now these three remain: faith, hope and love.
But the greatest of these is love."

By, the Old Guy With the Pony Tail
The old farmers used to frost seed their pastures on the new moon
in February. Seems there is some science behind the tradition and it also
works well on your lawn – it
has to do with the waxing and
waning of the moon. On the new
moon, soil moisture is drawn to
the soil surface with changes in
gravitational pull. This moisture
allows for the honeycombing of
the soil with the freeze thaw cycles
associated with this time of year.
If your lawn is like mine
a n d s u f f e r s f r o m d o g
damage or other traffic,
frost seeding is an ideal
opportunity to get seed in
the ground early. The dogs
also help work the seed in to
provide the soil seed contact
required for establishment.
When spring temperatures are
right the seed is in the ground
and ready to grow. Frost seeding
works best on bare soil. Perennial Rye germinates at cooler temperatures than
other seed species and is recommended for this procedure.
I'm the old guy with a ponytail
You may have read my words before
Now relax, pour a cup
And read a little more
I've been around a while
Turf is what I know
Took me years to learn
I learn good, but I learn slow
I can help you make a plan
Grow your grass real thick and tall
A plan that starts in early spring
And continues thru late fall
You need to pick your battles
Understand the fight you fight
Try not to make mistakes
And what you do, do right
Stop by the store real early
Around the onion snow
Before your lawn wakes up
Before it starts to grow
