With the summer closing in and the kids going back to school, now is the time to reestablish those healthy habits that might have diminished over your summer break! And more importantly, time to set an example for the loved ones around you. Statistics have shown the augmentation of obesity rates in the US, increasing annually by 2%. There are plenty of factors that go into why this issue has been growing so quickly, but the people in your household can have a significant impact on your wellness. Evidence demonstrates that having a positive relationship with health and fitness can influence younger generations to partake in these healthy patterns as well. As of 1996, the Health and Information Center created a family oriented wellness day in order to shed light on the growing epidemic, and simultaneously combat it by targeting the most influential groups. The last Saturday of the month is denominated as Family Health and Fitness Day USA, in hopes to promote healthy lifestyle patterns that all members of the family will benefit from. These patterns can stem from hosting activities such as cooking a healthy meal together, taking a walk outside, or signing up for a group class together at the Wellness Center! With new schedules being set in motion, this may be the most effective time of year to map out healthy habits the whole family can engage in!
