September is National Square Dance month and the Hunterdon Flutterwheels Square Dance Club is celebrating its 50th Anniversary year with a DANCE PARTY... and YOU are invited!! Square dancing offers a total mind and body workout and is a great form of exercise and stress relief. An evening of square dancing can equal three to five miles of walking and can burn 300 to 800 calories. If you can walk briskly to music, you can learn to square dance. Eight dancers work together in each square, executing moves announced by the caller to a wide variety of music such as Classic Rrock, Top-40, Country, Latin, show tunes and "Oldies." While traditional square dance clothes may be worn, comfortable everyday clothes are just as much at home at area modern western square dances. Square dancers come from all walks of life. Doctors dance along side clerks, mechanics, engineers, teachers – all enjoying the health benefits along with fun, relaxation, and fellowship in a friendly atmosphere. The Hunterdon Flutterwheels Square Dance Club, an affiliated program of the Hunterdon County Division of Parks and Recreation, invites you to find out what modern western square dancing is really all about and why it has been called "friendship set to music". Our Dance Party will be held on Saturday, September 10 from 1:30 to 4:00 pm at the Living Waters Lutheran Church, 11 Old York Road, Ringoes, NJ. No experience is necessary. Dress casually and wear comfortable shoes. Admission is by donation. Due to the ever-changing COVID recommendations, please call us or consult our website (see below) for the protocol applicable for this event. For those who are interested in continuing the activity, organized classes will begin at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, September 20 at the same location. You may stop in for a preview at the first class night even if you are unable to come to the Dance Party. Graduation from Mainstream square dance classes launches a dancer into a new world of life-long fun and fellowship!
