(I kind of like it, actually). However, my writing can lack vision too – check out the second Letter to the Editor below. This August cover and the quotes throughout are inspired by the power of imagination and the love of summer reading. I hope you'll enjoy reading this issue – enjoy the rest of your summer! Hi Julie, Hoping all is well with you and yours. Just looking at your latest cover and seeing the effort behind it I was wondering... would you consider a little monthly segment explaining the cover? (From inspiration all the way through to finished product? ) I know I would love it and I'm pretty certain others would as well. Good column (in the July 2022 issue). You'll probably get dozens of other tips. I'm heading out to Florida today to spend the Fourth with my kids. Tip: Work off a list when packing. Remember to look at list. Thank you Julie for all you do to keep us informed so expertly and "artistically"! – Evelyn Hi Evelyn, Thank you for the compliment and for your appreciation! When designing the covers for CTNL, I tend to start out with a loose idea, i.e. "fireworks and the Fourth of July", and then I add to it, much as one might paint a painting, but with collage. For the July 2022 issue, I was inspired by the idea of swing dancing (see the ad on page 24 of the July issue), and then the song "Sing, Sing, Sing" by Benny Goodman came into my head – the design just followed. I hope you had a Happy Fourth – keep reading CTNL! – Julie To: Julie Flynn, I'm writing to you with the hopes of giving you information that will be well received. In the July newsletter, you started your article with "I'll admit, I can be a little OCD sometimes." When people use OCD as an adjective, there is usually no ill intention and I assume that is the case with you. What most people don't understand about Obsessive Compulsive Disorder is what a serious, debilitating mental disorder it actually is. It is truly devastating to the person diagnosed and to their families. I am sending a link to an article from the International OCD Foundation that I hope you will read to become more informed. I truly believe that you meant no harm. I do feel that making people aware of this disorder will help to end some of the stigma/shame that many people feel when they read or hear comments regarding OCD. https://iocdf.org/ blog/2017/10/03/help-seperate-ocd-myths-from-the-facts/. Thank you for taking the time to read this. Sincerely, Anonymous Dear Anonymous, I appreciate your letter and yes – I agree – I used the phrase "a little OCD" too loosely in my July column. Thank you for your response and for the link to the article. I think others might learn from it too, so I'm running the entire article below. I'm happy to help educate our readers as well (even if I do have to eat a little crow in order to do so). Thanks – Julie "HELP SEPARATE OCD MYTHS FROM THE FACTS" from the International OCD Foundation As you know, many people have misconceptions about obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD). As part of OCD Awareness Week we want to help dispel common myths about OCD, but we need your help. Would you be willing to partner with us to help spread the word about what OCD really is? ...continued on page 4 -Julie Flynn DAYS TO KEEP IN MIND Thursday August 4 National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day Sunday August 7 National Friendship Day Sunday August 7 American Family Day Sunday August 7 Purple Heart Day August 14, 1945: V(ictory)-Day, Japan surrenders and WWII ends Thursday August 11 Purple Heart Day Sunday August 14 National Financial Awareness Day Monday August 15 Feast of the Assumption of Mary August 26, 1920: (Women's Equality Day) Commemorates the 19th amendment of the Constitution which gave women the right to vote.
