"Green was the silence, wet was the light, the month of June trembled like a buerfly." ~ Pablo Neruda G i V e B l o o D t o D a y a t h U n t e r D o n M e D i C a l C e n t e r Lives are saved everyday by blood donors in our community. Hunterdon Medical Center depends heavily on regular volunteer blood donors to maintain an adequate and safe blood supply. "Giving blood is the most generous act of kindness that one human being can do for another. When you give blood, you save lives. Blood is used for accident victims, newborn babies and their mothers who need a transfusion, people undergoing surgery, patients receiving treatment for cancer and other diseases," states Cathy Conroy, Blood Donor Recruiter at Hunterdon Medical Center. To be eligible to donate blood a person must be at least 17 years of age, be in good health and weigh at least 110 pounds. To schedule an appointment or for more information, call Hunterdon Medical Center at: 908.788.6405. As the chairman of the Clinton Township's Historical Preservation Commission (HPC) I am excited to reintroduce our commission to the community and describe what we do to assist in the preservation of our Township's rich history. What we do: Our commission repairs and rehabilitates our township's historic homes and structures. In October 2020 our commission along with Boy Scouts Troop 200 in Annandale cleaned up the Gitlow Farmstead (circa 1755) which is located on the 292-acre Windy Acre open space property. • We review applications and plans submitted to the Township's Planning Board, Zoning Board of Adjustment, and Construction Office to assist in reviews as they relate to the impact on historic structures, physical or cultural significant attributes. • We develop reuse and historic reclamation programs and provide recommendations to contractors, property owners and partner historical groups. • We host an annual walking tour of our historic districts to educate the public on its significance to the community. • We participate in the Township's Community Day, sharing historical Township information. • We write articles for the Clinton Township Newsletter regarding our Township's history. Who we are: Our commissioners volunteer their time and talent to help protect and share our township's history. Our commissioners include: Neil Simonelli, Chairman Kate Johnson, Vice Chair Richard Scheick, Secretary Steve Bayly, Commissioner Ted Bozzi, Commissioner Mark Uccardi, Commissioner We have vacancies! If you are interested in joining our committee to assist in the historic preservation of our township, please contact me at: historic. clintontownshipnj@gmail.com. We have vacancies on the committee and are looking for those with a shared interest in historic preservation. We are also looking for volunteers to assist in our "clean-up" days of our historic homes and structures. For the students in our community this is an excellent opportunity to contribute to the preservation of our township's rich history while satisfying school volunteering requirements!
