Having said that, your diatribe - I think that word fits - on daylight savings time left me wondering... "What does she want?" At one point you say you like the extra hour of daylight at night. But you don't like a simple turn of the clocks to get that hour? Let me share a memory... one response our leaders had to the mid-70's energy crisis was to retain daylight savings time throughout the winter. The result was that high school kids [including me] had to go to school in the dark. As I recall, many got killed by cars while standing in the dark at the end of streets. [Of course, these days they would be sitting with their parents in a large SUV with the engine guzzling gas, but don't let me get started on that.] You are right that the sun does not know what time it is. Time is a human concoction, which can be manipulated to suit the needs and wants of humans. Which explains why some areas of our country [mostly on the western edge of time zones] do not observe daylight savings time. How confusing it must be to live on the border of those areas! Here's a thought for you to ponder. Why do we have global time zones? Why can't there just be one single time all over the world? Because, we humans - for some reason - find it desirable that the sun comes up at about 7am all over the world, no matter where you live on the planet. I guess. Have a great start to your spring. Lets hope it warms up fast. Take care, John Hi John, Thank you for your email – I hear you. I actually wrote most of that column years ago… ("Diatribe", as you call it. Guilty as charged, I suppose.) I suggest that we spring-ahead or fall-back only a half hour and just stick with that time forever. I'll admit, if these are the worst of my problems, my life can't be that bad. Enjoy your spring and keep reading us! – Julie p.s. The U.S. Senate just unanimously passed a bill (on 3/15/2022) that would make daylight saving time permanent! As of this writing, it still needs to clear the U.S. House and be signed by President Joe Biden. If that happens, the legislation, called the Sunshine Protection Act, will go into effect in 2023.(!) letters to the editor Sales Associate Call Vicki Tuschak! www.bhhsnj.com/vicki.tuschak vtuschak@yahoo.com office: 908.735.9700 cell: 908.334.2164 Your Clinton Township and Beaver Brook Expert!
